Abstract:

The aim of this study is to determine the readiness of undergraduate music education students in the vocalization of maqam piano works and to provide suggestions for their development. Experimental method, which is one of the quantitative research methods, and pretest-posttest control group model, which is one of the real trial models, were used in the research. For the research, simple maqams that can be performed on the piano, which is a tampere system instrument, were scanned and Hüseyni and Karcığar maqams were found suitable for the research. In these two chambers, two folk songs were selected and arranged for the piano, and two original studies were written by the researcher, in the same chambers as the folk songs. During the experiment process, 10 students were selected from the undergraduate students studying at Gazi University, Department of Music Education and anexperimental-control group was formed. Two folk songs included in the study were applied to the students in the study groups as a pretest and their performances were scored by three field experts. While the experimental group students were studying the series, cadence, studies written using quadruple harmony in the same chambers as the folk songs, the control group students studied the tonal series, cadence, studies written for the piano with triple harmony. After this 10-week study process, the folk song arrangements in the determined authorities were reapplied to the students in the experimental-control group; their performances were scored by the same field experts and the SPSS 22.0 program was used for the analysis of these scores. As a result of the research, a significant difference was found in favor of the students in the experimental group in the performance of folk song arrangements written in quartet harmony. Based on these results, various suggestions were presented to the students.
