Editing in the film is a layered process that starts at the script stage and continues until the film meets the audience. The importance and influence of editing in filmmaking becomes a structure theorized first in the works of Griffith and Porter, and later in the productions of Soviet filmmakers. The importance of this study is to deal with the film editing in detail through a documentary, and to present this documentary in detail to those who are studying and researching in the field of cinema. The aim of this study is to analyze the documentary The Cutting Edge: The Magic Of Movie Editing (2004) within film editing, the development of editing and director-editor perspectives. The documentary features interviews with editors, directors and producers who have made many cult films, emphasizing the development and change phases of film editing from the early years of cinema to the 2000s. By applying qualitative data analysis and descriptive analysis, the aforementioned documentary was divided into sections, each section was explained in detail, and the editor-director-producer views were explained in the thematic structure that emerged in these sections. By showing sample scenes from many movies in the documentary, it has been reached that the editing has a complex and layered structure and that the editor and director put forth serious efforts during the completion of the editing.
