Abstract enIn this research, the texts in the 7th and 8th grade Turkish coursebooks prepared by the National Education Ministry were examined. In the study document review method was used. Totally 50 texts, 25 texts in the 7th grade and 25 texts in the 8th grade, were examined. The most text types included in the 7th and 8th grade respectively are story (% 18), essay (% 16), poem (%12), conversation (%10), article (%8), conference, travel writing, memoir, speeclı, biography, theatre, (% 4) legend, joke, epic, news, tale, novel (%2). There were 10 different types in the 25 texts in the 7th grade Turkish coursebooks; 15 different types in the 25 texts in the 8th grade Turkish coursebooks. In both grade coursebooks compulsory themes were included. As the 7th grade coursebook were in accordance totally with the program, the 8th grade coursebook contradict with the program in some points. It has been noticed that the rate of poems and novels in the 7th and 8th grade coursebooks were less than the other types
