Sosyolojinin ortaya çıkış sürecini kapitalizmin gelişimiyle ilişkilendiren Hikmet Kıvılcımlı bu süreci sınıflar arası çelişkilerin arttığı bir dönem olarak da ele alır. Kıvılcımlı’ya göre sosyoloji tam da böyle bir dönemde devreye girerek hem sınıfsal çelişkileri örtbas edecek hem de üst sınıfların çıkarlarına hizmet edecek burjuva sınıfının yeni bilimi biçiminde ortaya çıkacaktır. Kıvılcımlı'nın sosyolojiye itirazı egemen sınıfların kontrolünde burjuva çıkarlarına hizmet eden bir bilim olarak işlev görmesi noktasında ortaya çıkar. Bu açıdan Kıvılcımlı’nın itirazı sosyoloji biliminin kendisine değil; kullanım amacına, yapılış biçiminedir. Çalışma Kıvılcımlı’nın sosyoloji anlayışının özünü oluşturan, toplumsal sorunlara özellikle de sınıf çelişkilerine objektif olarak bakabilmeyi mümkün kılan ve tarihsel maddeciliği referans alan diyalektik veya maddeci sosyolojiye odaklanacaktır. Kıvılcımlı’nın sosyoloji anlayışının tespit edilmesine yönelik bu çalışma, Kıvılcımlı’ya ait mevcut eserlerin yanısıra Uluslararası Sosyal Tarih Enstitüsü arşivinde bulunan sosyoloji notları referans alınarak tamamlanmıştır.
Who associates the emergence of sociology with the development of capitalism, considers this process as a period of increasing contradictions between classes. So sociology would emerge as a new science of the bourgeois class, which would cover class contradictions and serve the interests of the upper classes. The objection to sociology stems from the point of its function as a science serving the interests of the bourgeois under the control of the ruling classes. In this respect, the object is not to sociology; but rather to its use and practice. This study focuses on dialectical or materialist sociology, which takes historical materialism as reference and is the essence of the understanding of sociology that enables to objectively look at social problems, especially class contradictions. This study aims at determining the understanding of social science and has been completed referring to the current studies of social science as well as the sociology notes found in the archives of the International Institute of Social History.
