Countries competing to be host to sports organizations that have an important place in the growing sports economy have socio-cultural, environmental, political and economic expectations as they organize these events. In this study, the economic effects expected from the 17th Mediterranean Games in Mersin province are analyzed and economic expectations are formed by compiling reliable survey studies within the framework of ex-ante method, the economic data are statistically analyzed in the frame of ex-post method and interpreted in accordance with expectations. According to the results of the analysis, the 17th Mediterranean Games in Mersin province can not meet the expectation of economic revival, increase in employment, increase in state revenues and increase in general level of prices. On the other hand, positive effects are seen in foreign trade and tourism but the crisis with Russia has also removed this positive effect. The reasons for not realizing expected economic impacts are that subcontractors based in Ankara and Istanbul are involved in the infrastructure and superstructure work in the organization, lack of financing, inadequacy of international marketing and advertising activities, and very low broadcasting and ticket revenues
