Abstract:

The unity of smartphones and social media has revealed two negative conditions called Nomofobia and FoMO. The first of these is Nomofobia, with fear of being absent from mobile phones, FoMO is a risk especially on university students as a fear of misleading developments on social media. Because of Nomofobia and FoMO, university students have increased their social media and smartphone use time. As a result of this increased time of use, university students are more inclined to Nomofobia and FoMO, and therefore they experience problems that lead to fear, anxiety and stress. The aim of this study is also to identify the metaphoric perceptions of university students about smartphone, Nomofobia, FoMO. In the field, when studies related to Nomofobia and FoMO are studied, it is found that the studies are in the size of quantum research. This study is designed by a mixed and qualitative method. The findings of the study differ according to the time of use of the smartphone by university students, the scores they obtain from the scale of Nomofobia and FoMO. When the findings are studied, it has been found that the metaphors of friends, organs, food, need, loved ones, loneliness for Nomofobia, absence, and retardation for FoMO are often expressed.
