Abstract:

In this study, it was aimed to examine the distribution of research on bilingualism in Turkish in terms of keywords, authors, universities, countries, citations, and so on, and to determine the current status of bilingualism studies with the analysis. Scientific mapping method was used in the study. In the research, first of all, “Bilingualism” and “Turkish (including SCI-EXPANDED, SSCI, AHCI, CPCI-S, CPCI-SSH, BKCI-S, BKCI-SSH, ESCI indexes) in the Web of Science (WoS) database. A search was made in which the words "Turkish” were mentioned together and 223 studies were found as a result of the search. Of these studies, whose publication years were between 1988 and 2021, 5 articles published in 2021 were excluded from the study due to the high probability of increasing the number of publications in the same year. In addition, the 2 withdrawn articles were not included in the study. The 216 publications added to the Web of Science database in about thirty years were considered as analysis units. These publications were analyzed using the Vosviewer package program. The reviewed publications the type of publication, the distribution of the publications by country, their keywords, the number of citations, the journals published, the institutions of the authors were mapped, visualized and interpreted. More than half of the publications considered in the 30-year period were produced between 2015-2020 It was found that the keywords of the publications included words such as bilingualism, multilingualism, bilingual education, Turkish immigrants, Turkish immigrant children, cross-linguistic influence, Turkish-German bilingualism, and second language acquisition.
