Abstract:

Media research’s interest in violent content emerged in the mid-1900s. The phenomenon of violence has managed to be on the agenda of scientific research both within the scope of traditional media and new media. On the other hand, it is clear that there is still a need today for studies that have the potential to provide a general status report on the field in question and determine the achievements or deficiencies and give direction of future research. This study, which focuses on filling the gap observed in the literature, is an effort to see/show how the relationship between media and violence, which has become the focus of scientific texts since the early approaches of media research, is reflected in recent ways of seeing. The study, which has the opportunity to be among the studies that draw attention to the problem in question, aims to be a small yet significant contribution to the literature due to its power to describe the literature holistically and to mark areas that deserve intense attention. Bibliometric analysis was used in this quantitative study. Although research findings have shown that the trend towards the issue has increased steadily since the early 2000s, the current interest of scientific publications has shifted to new media that stand out as places with intense violence, and when it comes to 2020, the keywords Covid-19, pandemic, public health, social media and domestic violence have increased so that there is a need for high-impact publications based on different ways of seeing in Türkiye. As a result, qualified publication production that will contribute to the development of domestic literature on the theme of media and violence is recommended.
