Abstract:

Polysystem theory is a theory that deals with translation in the context of culture. According to the polysystem theory, culture consists of many systems. Literature is also a multi-layered system within these systems, i.e, a polysystem consisting of many literary systems. Literary translation is one of the systems that make up the literary polysystem. Literary translation plays a crucial role in the construction, formation and development of the literary polysystem. In this article, we have drawn attention to the Kurdish literary translation and the role and importance of translation in the formation and development of modern Kurdish literature within the framework of this information. The analysis is limited to the translation and literature in Northern Kurdish (Kurmanji), which includes the Soviet, Hawar, Sweden and Northern phases of Kurdish literature. As a result, it is seen that, from the beginnings of modern Kurdish literature to the present day, in the context of prominent and pioneering Kurdish writers, translation has been a field of experimentation the acquisition of a literary language, the expansion of the boundaries and possibilities of Kurdish, and the exploration of the richness and potential of expression in Kurdish. Moreover, for Kurdish translators, translation was an experience and a field of practice for writing, a threshold of transition from translator to author, or a field for strengthening their authorship. This shows the positive role and importance of translation in the development of modern Kurdish literature, especially with regard to the authors’ experience and the linguistic context.
