Muallim-i Sânî Ebu Nasr-i Fârâbî ve Abdülkâdir-i Merâgî, hiç kuşkusuz mûsikî ilminin ve sanatının büyük simalarındandır. Her iki şahsiyetin ortak özelliklerinden birisi sadece erbâb-ı amel ya da eshab-ı nazar olmaması yani bu ilmin iki yönü olan nazarî ve amelî yönlerinde söz sahibi olmalarıdır. Fârâbî’nin mûsikînin ilim ve amelinde bu mükemmel bilgilerinden dolayı kaleme aldığı el-Mûsîka'l-kebîr’inde kapsamlı bir şekilde mûsikîye ait konuları inceleyip kendisinden önceki mûsikînin pratik ve teorik tartışmalarına son vermiştir. Bu nedenle Fârâbî’nin el-Mûsîka'l-kebîr’i mûsikîşinâslar tarafından oldukça ilgi görmüştür. Fârâbî sadece felsefe alanında değil, mûsikî ilminde de mihenk taşı sayılmış ve görüşleri mûsikî nazariyatçıları tarafından müracaat kaynağı olmuştur. Fârâbî ile aynı özellikleri taşıyan Merâgî de Câmiu’l-elân adlı eseri başta olmak üzere mûsikî sahasına sunduğu eserlerle bu ilmin zenginleşmesine ve ilerlemesine oldukça katkı sağlamıştır. Merâgî, Câmiu’l-elhân’ında ele aldığı kapsayıcı konuları son noktasına ulaştırmak için Fârâbî başta olmak üzere birçok nazariyatçının görüşlerine yer vermiştir. Bu makalede, Merâgî'nin Câmiu’l-elhân’ında Fârâbî'den yaptığı alıntılar ele alınarak incelenmiştir. Bu incelemelerin sonucunda Merâgî'nin, Fârâbî'den aktardığı görüşlere karşı iki tavır sergilediği tespit edilmiştir. Merâgî, bazı yerlerde ele aldığı konuları güçlendirmek amacıyla Fârâbî’nin sözlerini alıntılamış, bazı yerlerde de Fârâbî’nin görüşlerini aktardıktan sonra onun sözlerini açıklamıştır. Merâgî’nin söz konusu bu açıklamalarında bazen Fârâbî’yi yanlış anladığı ve onun sözlerini yanlış yorumladığı sonucuna varılmıştır.
