Abstract:

The purpose of the research is to determine how university students conceptualize and perceive the dekan concept through metaphors.In the research, the phenomonological pattern from the qualitative research methods, and in the determination of the study group, the aim of the sample technique has been used. The study included a total of 101 students studying at the Faculty of Literature of the University of Bingöl in the 2020-2021 educational year. In the analysis of data, the content analysis technique has been used. According to the results of the study, the categories produced were found to be under a frequency title of 9 categories, including authorized (f=19), unaccessible and unknown (f=17), guide and lighting (f=17), care and protection (f=14), solution-producing (f=10), basic need (f=8), useful and valuable (f=7), useless and unreliable (f=6), and side (f=3). According to the research, the influence of the high power distance in society has found that students of the University of Bingöl Faculty of Science and Literature have the perception that it is impossible to reach the dekan and dekan office and a paternalist perspective. Given the perceptions and expectations of students, the decs may be advised to act with an open communication policy and a management understanding that is closer to the student.
