ÖZ: Bursa Sevaisi, on yedinci yüzyıldan sonra görülmeye başlayan küçük bitkisel bezemelerin hakim olduğu bir kumaş çeşididir. Bursa Sevai kumaşların çözgüsünde ipek, atkısında pamuk, ilave desen ipliğinde ipek ve kılaptan iplik kullanılmıştır. Ancak ipek ve kılaptan iplikle dokunmuş birçok kumaş; Sevai, Selimiye, Şib, Serenk, Zifir gibi isimlerde anıldığı için Bursa Sevai kumaşı ile karıştırılmaktadır. Yazılı ve görsel kaynaklara bakıldığında birçok Sevai kumaş örneğini görmek mümkündür. Sevai kumaşlar dokunduğu yere, tercih edildiği yere, kullanılan hammaddenin yerine göre şehir isimleri ile birlikte anılmaktadır. Bursa Sevai kumaşının bir grubu dokunduğu yere göre mühür ile belgelenmiştir. Bu kumaş grubunun karakteristik özelliği zemin çözgü ve atkı ipliklerinde ekru, desende ise en fazla dört farklı rengin yer aldığı ilave desen çözgü ipliğinin kullanılmasıdır. Geçmişte halk tarafından geniş bir kullanım alanına sahip olan Bursa Sevai kumaşları günümüzde artık üretilmemektedir. Bu bağlamda incelenen Bursa Sevai kumaş grubunun teknik, desen, renk gibi özelliklerinin belgelenmesi çalışmanın amacını oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmada tarama modeli yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Yazılı ve görsel kaynaklarda yer alan Bursa Sevai kumaş örneklerinin motif, kompozisyon, renk özelliklerinin belirlenmesi dışında ulaşılabilen dört adet örneğin teknik analizleri yapılması ile dokuma tekniği, hammadde ve kalite özellikleri de saptanmıştır. Bu açıdan çalışma, incelenen Bursa Sevai kumaş grubunun aynı özelliklerde tekrar yorumlanabilmesi bakımından önem arz etmektedir. Araştırmanın ilk aşamasında Sevai kumaşının tarihi gelişimi, ikinci aşamasında Sevai kumaşının tanımı ve çeşitleri, üçüncü aşamasında incelenen Bursa Sevai kumaş grubu ve özellikleri, dördüncü aşamasında ise yapılan incelemeler ve ulaşılan neticeler değerlendirilmiştir.
ABSTRACT: Bursa Sevai is a type of fabric with small floral ornaments that began to be seen after the seventeenth century. In the Bursa Sevai fabrics, silk is used in the warp, cotton in the weft, and silk and gold thread in supplementary yarn. However, there are many fabrics woven with silk and gold thread. Since these fabrics are known as Sevai, Selimiye, Sib, Serenk, Zifir, they are confused with Bursa Sevai fabric. There are many Sevai fabric samples in written and visual sources. Sevai fabrics are mentioned together with the city names according to the place they are woven, the place they are preferred, and the place of the raw material used. A group of Bursa Sevai fabric is documented with a seal according to where it was woven. The characteristic feature of this fabric group is the use of ecru color in the first warp and weft threads, and the use of maximum of four different colors in supplementary warp yarns. Bursa Sevai fabrics, which had a wide use by the public in the past, are no longer produced today. In this context, the aim of the study is to document the technical, pattern and color characteristics of examined Bursa Sevai fabric group. Descriptive survey model method was used in the study. The motif, composition and color characteristics of Bursa Sevai fabric samples in written and visual sources were determined. In addition, weaving technique, raw material and quality characteristics were determined by making technical analyzes of the four samples that could be reached. In this respect, the study is important in terms of reinterpreting examined Bursa Sevai fabric groups with the same properties. In the first stage of the research the historical development of Sevai fabric, in the second stage the definition and types of Sevai fabric, in the third stage examined Bursa Sevai fabric groups and its properties, in the fourth stage the investigations and the results reached were evaluated.
