Abstract:

The COVID-19 epidemic has caused a greater impact on economic policy uncertainty compared to the 2007-2008 global financial crisis. Governments have taken unprecedented measures to mitigate the economic turmoil caused by the pandemic that affects the financial and economic performance of countries around the world. A recent study examined the impact of the epidemic as a global problem on economic policy uncertainty and found that this uncertainty caused a significant increase. The study used various economic indicators, including the monthly global economic policy uncertainty index, the CBOE VIX index and the news-based economic policy uncertainty index, and analyzed the economic policy uncertainty of ten countries for the period 2007-2022. The results showed that the COVID-19 epidemic caused unprecedented uncertainty, unlike the 2007-2008 global financial crisis. The study emphasizes that governments should continue to implement measures such as increasing public spending, access to loans and advanced financial supervision to ensure the long-term sustainability of economic growth.
