Sanal Gerçeklik Tabanlı Öğretim Materyalinin Öğrenme Güçlüğü Olan Öğrencilerde Geometriye Dayalı Problem Çözme Üzerine Etkililiği

Abstract:

Özet-Son on senede içinde özel gereksinimli öğrencilerin matematik alanında akademik gelişimine yönelik önemli araştırmalar yapılmaktadır. Bu çabada özel gereksinimli öğrencilerde hem yüksek teknolojinin hem de düşük teknolojinin sınıf içinde kullanımını içermekte ve oldukça da dikkat çekmektedir. Özel gereksinimli öğrencilerin matematik öğretim materyali kullanımı, köklü bir teknoloji şeklidir. Her ne kadar öğretimsel uygulamalar somut öğretim materyalleri üzerinden gerçekleştirilse de sanal öğretim materyallerinin ortaya çıkması ilköğretim birinci ve ikinci kademede öğrencilere matematik öğretiminde yeni seçenekler sunmaktadır. Bu makalede sanal gerçeklik tabanlı öğretim materyallerinin özel gereksinimli öğrencilerin matematik başarılarının arttırılmasındaki destekleyici rolü araştırılmaktadır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda sanal gerçeklik tabanlı uygulamaların faydaları vurgulayarak, özel gereksinimli öğrencilere öğrenme için esnek seçenekler sağlama, öğrencinin bağımsız olmasını teşvik etme ve görsel algıyı destekleyici rolleri üzerine yoğunlaşılmıştır. Araştırmada sanal öğretim materyalinin öğrenme güçlüğüne eşlik eden hiperaktiviteye sahip 3 öğrencide küp, kare ve dikdörtgen prizmalar ile ilgili alan ve hacim sorularına verilen doğru yanıt sayıları incelenmiştir. Denekler arası çoklu yoklama araştırma modeli ile yapılan araştırmada öğretimin sanal gerçeklik platformları üzerinden yapılmasının dikkatin belirli bir noktaya toplanarak sürdürülmesini desteklediği ve eğlenceli uygulamalar içermesiyle bir avantaj sağlayarak geometri problemlerine verilen doğru yanıt sayısının arttığını söylemek mümkündür.

Abstract:

Over the past ten years, important research has been carried out on the academic development of specialized students in mathematics. This effort involves the use of both high and low technology in the classroom in special needs students, and is also quite attracted to attention. The use of mathematical teaching materials by specialized students is a rooted form of technology. Although teaching practices are carried out through concrete teaching materials, the appearance of virtual teaching materials offers students in the first and second stages of primary education new options in mathematics teaching. This article explores the supporting role of virtual reality-based teaching materials in increasing mathematical achievements of specialized students. With emphasizing the benefits of virtual reality-based practices in this direction, it focuses on providing flexible learning options to specialized students, encouraging the student to be independent, and its role in supporting visual perception. In the study, 3 students with hyperactivity accompanied by the learning difficulty of the virtual teaching material studied the correct number of answers to field and volume questions related to cubic, square and straight-course prisms. In the research with the interpersonal multi-destruction research model, it is possible to say that teaching through virtual reality platforms supports the continuation of attention by gathering to a specific point and provides an advantage with entertaining applications and increases the number of correct answers to geometry problems.

The past ten years have generated significant research toward improving the mathematical academic outcomes of students with learning disabilities. In this effort, the role of technology in the classroom, both high- and low-tech, has gained significant attention for students with disabilities. The use of manipulatives is a form of technology with an established research base. Although concrete manipulatives in instructional practice have been thoroughly studied, the emergence of virtual manipulatives presents teachers with new options for teaching mathematics to elementary and secondary students. This article focuses the use of virtual manipulatives for students with disabilities while highlighting the benefits they pose, such a providing students with flexible options for learning, promoting student autonomy, and offering educators a wider range of options. In the study, the number of correct answers given to the area and volume questions related to the cube, square and rectangular prisms by the virtual teaching material were examined in 3 students with hyperactivity accompanying the learning difficulties. In the research conducted with the multiple probe across participants design, it is possible to say that the implementation of teaching through virtual reality platforms supports the continuation of attention to a certain point and it provides an advantage by having fun applications and increasing the number of correct responses to the geometry problems.
