Abstract:

In this study, the impact of the use of mathematical history in mathematics courses on students’ attitudes towards mathematics was studied. In the study, the process of obtaining data was used by the uneven control group model, which was evaluated as a semi-experimental pattern from experimental patterns. The research was carried out with 39 eighth-class students and a secondary school math teacher located in two different branches in an Erzincan province. The study used a scale aimed at studying the mathematical attitudes of high school students to study the changes in their attitudes towards mathematics as a result of mathematical history practices. The data was analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS 18) program. In the analysis of the data, according to the normality test results, the relevant tests have been used and the necessary assessments have been made. The mathematical attitude is gathered under four factors: interest, anxiety, work and necessity. When the findings are studied, it is clear that mathematical history practices have a positive impact on the attitude towards the mathematical course.
