Özet:

In the 19th century, there had been a period in the Ottoman Empire were significant changes occurred in the historiography as well as administrative, political and military fields. One of the breaking points in Ottoman historiography was the fact that intellectuals who were sent to Europe for education in the process of westernization and reforms learned foreign languages and could read different books written in foreign languages in the field of history. Compared to the previous ones, the intellectuals who learned different languages also used foreign state records without being dependent on the Ottoman records. In this way, the dynasty-centered Ottoman histories, along with monographic features of the voyage, victory, biography and social history has led to the emergence of synthesis research. These works, which are prepared by comparing different records and documents, are still up to date as they are considered as an important criterion in modern historiography. it also needs to be transferred to contemporary educational alphabets to make it available to the public or the researchers from different disciplines. Besides, many years have passed since the publication date of the book and these publications are not available in the market or a few copies remain in the libraries. These factors make it compulsory to translate these important works into the Latin alphabet. This work, which was prepared by Ahmet Çaparlar, Eda Çaparlar, and Yahya Avcı by being transferred to the Latin Alphabet, this work was written by Ferîk Ahmed Muhtar Pasha (1861-1926), who worked as a teacher in Pangaltı Mekteb-i Harbiyye for many years. He has also worked at many governmental levels and founded the Müze-i Askerî (Military Museum) and served as its director. Although the writing process was not fully specified, it was completed in 1926 but published in 1928 after his death. The full print of the first edition of the work; Türkiye Devleti’nin En Mühim ve Meşhûr Esfârından 1244-45 (1828-29) Türkiye-Rusya Seferi ve Edirne Muâhedesi -Vakitsiz Seferin İbret ve İntibâh Dersleri- consists of two volumes. The translated work has been published in two volumes, faithful to the first edition. The work is written following “Çeviriyazı Metinlerde Uyulacak Esaslar” with the guidelines of the Turkish Historical Society for post-Tanzimat texts. Also published in October 2019 by Kitabevi Yayınları, which has a respectable place with its works published in social and human sciences. As the preface of the editors stated in the transcript, the language and expression of the author have been loyal and no intervention has been made. Necessary punctuation marks have added only in places that will cause narration disorder. Also, printing errors, typographical errors and various corrections in the original text have indicated by markings made in the text or explanations in the footnote. The contents of the work have been re-created by the editors for completeness and a detailed index has been added at the end of each volume to facilitate the reading of the text. As it is known, generally there is no index section in Ottoman Turkish books and this situation often makes it difficult to reach the desired information. In this sense, the inclusion of the sequence facilitates access to relevant sections for researchers. Besides, work is often cited in the original text of the book “1244-1245 Türkiye-Rusya Seferi ve Edirne Muâhedesi Atlı Eserin Birinci ve İkinci Cildine Ait Krokilerin Listesi” which was published by the Büyük Erkân-ı Harbiyye Reîsliği in Ankara in 1930. The above-mentioned work is placed at the end of Volume 2 in this work which is prepared for publication and it is given with the addition of CD in order to maintain the resolution of maps and sketches. Although this work was prepared in the first quarter of the 20th century, it is not easily understood in terms of language and expression. The fact that Arabic and Persian compositions are used in the text makes it necessary for the researchers who want to benefit from this work to read with the help of a dictionary. Of course, this situation is also remarkable in terms of showing the knowledge, cultural accumulation and intellectual level of an officer in the Ottoman military staff to different languages. Because, when we look at the languages of the sources used in the work, it is extremely important for our modern military historiography to use the resources of other contemporary states where not only Turkish sources are adhered to. The author frequently refers to the importance of the science of history and draws attention to the importance of military organization and military history consciousness in the formation of states and the continuation of their existence. He also mentions the importance of history and states that military institutions can only be realized with the art of war. In this context, which has an important place in the world military history and famous, Gustav Adolf, Prince Eugene de Savoie, Prince Aiken, Sultan Mehmed, Napoléon Bonaparte, Marshal Moltke, Marshal Goltz, Marshal Oyama, Marshal Hindenburg, General Ludendorff, French Marshal Joffre, Marshal Foch, and British Marshal Allenby emphasizes the importance of their representatives and strategies. As a result, this book, which consists of two volumes and deals with the important breaking points of the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century, is still used as the main reference book by many researchers today. For this reason, this work, which was converted into the Latin alphabet and re-published, is presented to the service of researchers and meets an important need.
