Abstract:

The "tecrit" factor that affects the islands forms its own peculiar fauna and flora elements. Therefore, the biological diversity of the islands is very important in the bio-cographic perspective and is always interesting. Ecological data is necessary for the preservation and management of such interesting areas. Faunist studies on the island of Giresun were more focused on birds.  The island of Giresun, which is home to 26 bird species, stands out with an intense bird population. But there is no study of the island's macromurgeous fauna, ecology and management. This study is the first study on the macromurgeous fauna and ecology of the island and was carried out in the summer 2015 and 2016 season in the framework of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanism "Ecological-based Scientific Research Project of Trabzon, Artvin, Rize, Silverhouse and Giresun Natural Sites" by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanism. The study found 16 species/taksons of a total of 15 families. All the species identified were recorded for the first time from the Giresun Island. In the land study in October 2015, archaeological excavations launched on the island found that many water and land habitats were completely destroyed or damaged. Specifically, the spinal beans placed in the trees are negatively affected by the excavation work done here or nearby. But the existence of other similar habitats on the island is considered a chance for the future fauna and flora of the island. The future of habitats and fauna on the island will largely be determined by the archaeological excavations launched here. Since archaeological excavations have just begun and it is unclear how much area it will cover, it is a fact that in the near future many land and water habitats on the island will be negatively affected and even completely disappear.
