2019

Abstract:

Relationship between the rate of interest and inflation in Turkey: 2006-2018
2019
Author:
Abstract:

In 2018, the exchange rate in Turkey, following the upward sudden fluctuation, increased inflation rates by 25% in TÜFE and 45% in ÜFE. The aim of the study is to examine the relationship between the interest rate and inflation rate in Turkey. In the study, the relationship between inflation and interest rate in Turkey was analyzed through the VAR model, the Johansen equalization test and the Granger causality test, using monthly data on the years 2006:4 - 2018:9. According to the results of the Johansen Eternal Integration test, a long-term relationship between the variables has been detected.  According to the Granger causality test results, a two-way causal relationship between interest and inflation has also been identified. Thus, it has been found that the effect of Fisher in Turkey has a long-term relationship between inflation and interest rates. The rise trend in currencies in 2018 has become compulsory to increase inflation and lower the interest rates in the excess currency.

Relationship Between The Exchange Rate and Inflation Rate In Turkey 2006-2018
2019

Abstract:

After the sudden increases in exchange rates in Turkeys during the 2018 lead to 25% in the CPI inflation rate and %45 in the PPI inflation rate. The aim of this study is to examine the   relationship between interest rates and inflation rates in Turkey, In this study VAR model analysis, Johansen co-integration test, Granger causality test  has been examined for the period 2006.4-2018.9. According to the results of Johansen Co-integration test, a long-term relationship was found between the variables. According to the Granger causality test, a two-way causality relationship between interest rate and inflation rate was determined., Thus it was determined that a stronger Fisher impact is valid for Turkish economy when the monetary interest rate is based as interest rate. The upward trend in exchange rates in 2018 increased the inflation rate and the increase in interest rates became compulsory in order to reduce the excessive exchange rate volatility.
