İnsanoğlu ilkçağlardan itibaren yaşamına dair pek çok şeyi sayma ve hesap etme isteği duymuş, bunun neticesinde de hayatında var olan nesnelere, kavramlara ve kelimelere çeşitli anlamlar vererek onlara bazı simgesel değerler yüklemiştir. Sayılara yüklenen bu farklı manalar da sayı sembolizminin ortaya çıkmasında etkili olmuştur. Türklerin İslamiyet’ten önceki bazı inanış ve ritüellerinde de var olan sayı sembolizmi İslamiyet’in kabulünden sonra da çeşitli şekillerde varlığını sürdürmeye devam etmiştir. Masal, destan ve halk anlatılarında görülen sayı simgeciliği zamanla felsefî metinlerde kullanılmaya başlanmıştır. İbn Arabî ile sistemleştirilen harf ve sayı sembolizmi sonraki dönemlerde sadece felsefî metinlerde değil tasavvufî ve edebî metinlerde de varlığını hissettirmiştir. Manzum-mensur birçok eserde sayı sembolizminin kullanımına dair örnekler bulunmaktadır. 18.yüzyılda Müstakim Mustafa Niyâzî tarafından kaleme alınmış olan Sohbetü’l-Gâye de bu eserlerden birisidir. Eser, anlatımında sembolik ifadelerin kullanıldığı tasavvufî bir metindir. Eserin tamamında anlatılanların 7, 14 ve 28 gibi yedi ve yedinin katlarına denk gelecek şekilde belli sayılara dayandırılarak izah edilmeye çalışıldığı görülmektedir. Vahdet-i vücûd düşüncesini yansıtan eserde, iç içe girmiş farklı birçok tasavvuf ıstılâhı ile kainatın yaratılışından mevsimlerin oluşumuna, gün, hafta, ay ve sene hesabından insanda var olduğu ifade edilen latîfelere, Fâtiha sûresinin yedi ayetinden kurra-i seb‘aya, Allah’ın sübûtî ve selbî sıfatlarından Arap alfabesindeki harf sayısına ve sûfînin çıktığı seyr ü süluk yolculuğuna kadar anlatılan pek çok şeyde ifade edilenler yedi ve yedinin katlarına uygun şekilde açıklanmaya çalışılmış ve eserde hep bu sayıların izi sürülmüştür. Bu çalışmada, eserde vurgulanan sayılar üzerinden sayı sembolizminin farklı düşünce sistemlerinde nasıl değerlendirildiği ele alınmış ve Sohbetü’l-Gâye’deki sayı sembolizmi örneklerle izah edilmeye çalışılmıştır.
Since ancient times, human beings have had the desire to count and calculate many things about their life, and as a result, they have given various meanings to the objects, concepts and words that exist in their lives, and ascribed some symbolic values to them. These different meanings attributed to numbers were also effective in the emergence of number symbolism. The number symbolism, which also existed in some beliefs and rituals of the Turks before Islam, continued to exist in various forms after the acceptance of Islam. Number symbolism, which is seen in fairy tales, epics and folk narratives, has started to be used in philosophical texts over time. The symbolism of letters and numbers systematized by Ibn Arabi made its presence felt not only in philosophical texts but also in mystical and literary texts in the following periods. There are examples of the use of number symbolism in many poetic-prose works. Sohbetü’l-Gâye, which was written by Müstakim Mustafa Niyâzî in the 18th century, is one of these works. The work is a mystical text in which symbolic expressions are used in its narration. It is seen that what is told throughout the work is tried to be explained by basing it on certain numbers such as 7, 14 and 28, which correspond to multiples of seven. From the creation of the universe to the formation of the seasons, from the calculation of the day, week, month and year to jokes that are expressed to exist in human beings, from the seven verses of the Fatiha sura to the Kurra-i seb'a, from Allah's adjectives of sübûtî and selbî to the number of letters in the Arabic alphabet and the sûfî's journey to seyr ü süluk, it has been tried to be explained in accordance with the multiples of seven, and these numbers have always been traced in the work which reflects the idea of Vahdet-i vücud (unity of existence). In this study, it is discussed how the number symbolism is evaluated in different thought systems through the numbers emphasized in the work and the number symbolism in Sohbetü'l-Gâye is tried to be explained with examples.
