Bulunduğu çağda Osmanlı Devleti’nin din özgürlüğü açısından diğer milletlere model oluşturabilecek önemli bir yerde durduğunu söylemek mümkündür. Osmanlı Devleti’nde din özgürlüğü teorik olarak kaynağını, Kuran’ın Ehli Kitap’ı tanıması kabulü bakış açısından almaktadır Çünkü “Dinde hiçbir şekilde zorlama yoktur.” Bu yüzden Osmanlı Devleti, topraklarında yaşayan cemaatlere günümüzde de kabul gören, İnsanların istedikleri inancı serbestçe seçme iman , inançlarının gerektirdiği eylemlerde bulunabilme amel , inançları doğrultusunda öğretim ve eğitim yapabilme eğitim ve sosyal birlik cemaat oluşturabilme özgürlüklerini din özgürlüğü kapsamında onlara bahşetmiştir. Bu makale, yukarıda anlatılan çerçevede hem teorik ve hem de pratik olarak, Osmanlı Devleti topraklarında yaşayan Hıristiyan ve Yahudi toplumlarıyla ilgili uygulamalarına yer vermiştir. Bu uygulamalar, kilise ve havraların korunması, din adamlarının papaz ve haham dinleriyle ilgili konularda rahatça hareket edebilmeleri, dini cemaatlerin kendi iç işlerinde serbest olmaları, devlet olarak onların güvenliklerini sağlama ve gerektiğinde arabuluculuk yapma vb. alanları kapsamaktadır.
It is possible to say that the Ottoman State stands in an important place that can be a model for other nations in terms of religious freedom. In the Ottoman State, religious freedom is theoretically the source of the recognition (acceptance) of the Qur’an in terms of the sight, because “there is no force in religion (in any way).” Thus the Ottoman State has given them the freedom to freely choose the faith they want, to be able to do the actions their beliefs require, to teach and educate according to their beliefs, and to create social unity (community) within the framework of religious freedom. This article, in the framework described above, includes both theoretically and practically the practices of the Christian and Jewish communities living in the territory of the Ottoman State. These practices include the protection of the churches and pastors, the ability of religious men (pope and haham) to act conveniently in matters related to their religions, the freedom of religious congregations in their own internal affairs, the assurance of their security as a state and the provision of mediation if necessary, etc. covering the areas.
It is possible to say that the Ottoman Empire stands in an important place where it can create a model for other nations in terms of religious freedom. In the Ottoman Empire, freedom of religion theoretically takes its source from the point of view of the recognition of the People of the Book of the Qur'an because ‘There is no coercing in the religion’2. Furthermore, the Ottoman Empire has granted the freedom to choose freely faith , to be in the actions required of their beliefs deeds , to be able to make teaching and education in the direction of their beliefs education and social unity community to the congregation living on its territory within the scope of religious freedom. This article includes both theoretical and practical applications of Christian and Jewish societies living in the Ottoman Empire. These practices include the protection of the Church and the Synagogue, the clergy priest and rabbi to be able to move freely in the matters related with their religion, to be independent in their internal affairs, as a state to provide their security and to perform mediation if necessary.
