Abstract:

In this study, studies that study the impact of laboratory practices based on contemporary approaches on students’ attitudes towards the laboratory were studied by the meta-analysis method. In this study, with a total number of samples of 1406, moderator analysis was carried out in broadcast types, scale types, fields of science, application areas and experimental patterns. The study’s impact size calculations were made using the statistical program “Comprehensive Meta Analysis” for heterogeneity, publication error and intervariable analysis. The overall impact size of contemporary laboratory approaches on students’ attitudes towards the laboratory is determined as d=0.557 (95% CI, SE=0.090) in the confidence range of 0.381 to 0.733 by using the random impact model. According to the classification made by Cohen, Manion and Morrison (2007) it has been determined that laboratory practices based on contemporary approaches have a medium impact on students’ attitudes towards laboratory courses. The results of the moderators analysis have not identified a significant difference in impact sizes according to the type of publication, the fields of science studied, the areas of application, the type of experimental pattern and the type of scale.
