Abstract:

Today, social media is meeting the needs of its users in many areas. The fact that it is difficult to reach the social support sources at all times increases the importance of social media. Social media makes it easier for individuals to access social support resources. When taking into account youth’s social media use habits and purposes, it can be said that social media is an important tool for youth to provide social support. The use of social support resources for young people and adolescents to meet their social needs; knowing that they are supported in issues such as emotional and material needs in this direction, positively affects the satisfaction of life. To reveal the effectiveness of social support perceived on social media on life-satisfaction, the quantial research method used in this study, 315 participants collected data using the online survey technique. The study found that women spent more time on daily social media than men, most often using WhatsApp, YouTube and Instagram. The research shows that social support perceived on social media can appear in different dimensions, such as emotional, instrumental, cognitive and evaluation. The impact of social support perceived by the study on life satisfaction, statistically meaningful and positive, has been identified.
