Abstract:

The research was conducted as a descriptive and correlational study to examine the relationship between the quality of life and self-care management of patients diagnosed with hypertension. Research data were collected between 01.05.2022 and 01.08.2022. In the study, patient identification form, SF-36 Quality of Life Scale (SF-36-QLS), Self-Care Management Scale were used as data collection tools. The data of the study were analyzed in SPSS 24.0 program and frequency, percentages, one-way analysis of variance, independent groups t-test and Pearson correlation analysis were used to analyze the data. It was determinend that patients with hypertension included in the study scored 77.55±5.98 points from the physical function subscale, 64.91±1.02 points from the physical role difficulty subscale, 54.84±1.51 points from the pain subscale, and 50.84±2.87 points from general health subscale of the SF-36-QLS. In the study, it was found that the overall score on the Self-Care Management Scale (SCMS) was 90.98±9.49, self-protection subscale was 43.24±4.14, and the social protection subscale was 47.73±9.59. It was determined that there was a negative and positive relationship between many sub-dimensions of the patients' quality of life and the general point average of the self-care management scale, self-protection and social protection dimensions. In line with these results, it was recommended that nurses working with hypertensive patient groups should periodically evaluate the patients' self-care power and quality of life, and teach the patients skills such as blood pressure monitoring, diet, and exercise at home.
