Abstract:

Purpose: This research is a cutting-edge study conducted in order to determine the use and satisfaction of patients receiving inhaling medication diagnosed with asthma.The purpose and method: The research was conducted between March-June 2012 at the Breast Clinic of an university hospital and a state hospital serving within the island of Izmir. The study was conducted by 84 individuals. The research data were collected with the patient’s promotion form, the inhaler satisfaction form and the inhaler drug use observation form.The findings: 63.1% of patients in the study were diagnosed with KOAH and 36.9% with asthma; 52.4% of patients were diagnosed between 1-5 years and 53.6% were hospitalized 1-3 times. The study found that 57.1 percent of patients inhaled a measurable dose, 36.9 percent used turbohaler and 6 percent used disc. The percentage of respondents who they were satisfied with the device they used in the survey was 40.5%. The patient's inhaler device use skill scores are measured inhaler dose 5.1±2.6, turbuhaler 6.8±2.3, disc 6.8±3.4. Results: The study found that the patient's inhaler device use skills were at a medium level. Health professionals are advised to choose the appropriate inhaler device for the patient and provide the necessary training on the proper use of the device.
