Hip hop kültürünün bir bileşeni olan Rap, günümüzde Amerikan müzik endüstrisinde ana akım (mainstream) bir türdür. 1970’li yıllarda New York’un Bronx bölgesinde ortaya çıktığı kabul edilen bu müziksel pratik, zamanla farklı ülkelerde de yerel dinamiklerle etkileşime girerek yeni ve yeniden üretilen, tüketilen bir emtia (meta) haline gelmiştir. Türkçe Rap müzik de bu bağlamda değerlendirilebilir. Ancak, Türkçe Rap müziğin tarihsel arka planı 1980’li yıllarda Almanya’da yaşayan Türk diasporasına dayanır. Bununla birlikte Türkiye’de 1990’lı yılların ortalarından itibaren yeraltı (underground) bir pratik olarak görünürlük kazanmaya başlayan Türkçe Rap’in, 2010’lu yılların ortalarından itibaren mainstream etkileşimi dikkat çekicidir. Bir müzik türünün eş zamanlı olarak hem mainstream hem de underground bir yaşam sürmesi de mümkündür. Mainstream ve underground karşıt konumları işaret etse de, bir müzik pratiği söz konusu karşıtlığa rağmen simbiyotik etkileşime her zaman açıktır. Günümüz medya teknolojilerinin sunduğu imkanlar, yerel ölçekte üretilen müzik metinlerini hem yereller arası hem de küresel ölçekte anında etkileşime açık hale getirdi. Buradan hareketle bu makale, alan araştırması yöntemini benimseyen etnomüzikoloji disiplinine uygun bir yaklaşımla İzmir merkezinde Rap atmosferi (scene) ve dinamiklerine odaklanır. Rap özelinde popüler müzik incelemesi olan bu çalışmada scene kavramsal inşayı işaret ederken, etnografi malumat toplama yöntemine vurgu yapar.
Rap, which is a component of hip hop culture, is a mainstream genre in the American music industry today. This musical practice, which is accepted to have emerged in the Bronx area of New York in the 1970s, has become a new and reproduced, consumed commodity by interacting with local dynamics in different countries over time. Turkish Rap music can also be evaluated in this context. However, the historical background of Turkish Rap music is based on the Turkish diaspora living in Germany in the 1980s. In addition to this, Turkish rap that gained visibility as an underground practice in Turkey starting from the mid-1990s is remarkable in mainstream interaction starting from the middle of the 2010s. It is also possible for a music genre to live both a mainstream and an underground life simultaneously. Although mainstream and underground point to opposite positions; a music practice is always open to symbiotic interaction, despite the mentioned opposition. The possibilities offered by today’s media technologies have made music texts produced on a local scale available for instant interaction on both local and global scale. Proceeding from this point, this article focuses on the Rap atmosphere (scene) and dynamics in the center of Izmir in accordance with ethnomusicology discipline which internalizes the method of field research. In this study, which is a review of popular music rap privately ethnography emphasizes the method of information gathering while the scene points out conceptual construction.
