Üç boyutlu ve gerçeğin yeniden üretildiği bir dünya olan sanal gerçeklikten farklı olarak Castells’in gerçek sanallığında, gerçek ile temsili gerçek arasındaki fark ortadan kalkmıştır. Her şeyin sembolik olduğu bu dünyada, temsili ortamın sanallığı gerçeğin yerini almıştır. Başka bir deyişle ise taklit olan, gerçek olanın yerine geçmiştir ki bu da aynı zamanda simülasyondur. Gerçeğin temsiline dayanan simülasyon için Baudrillard, dünyanın bir simülasyon olduğunu ve hakikat ile simülasyonun sınırlarının belirsizleştiğini söylemektedir. Gerçek ve temsillerinin birbirine karıştığı bu ortamda, bilinç ise önemli bir kavram olarak durmaktadır. Zihnin farkında olma durumu olan bilinç, bedenden bağımsızdır ve bedenin yokluğunda dahi var olabilmektedir. Bu bağlamda Upload dizinin ele alındığı bu çalışmanın konusunu, gerçek sanallık ve simülasyon bağlamında bilinç kavramı oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmanın problemi, dizideki dünyanın sanal gerçeklik mi yoksa gerçek sanallık kavramına mı karşılık geldiği ve söz konusu simülasyon dünyasında bilincin nasıl konumlandırıldığıdır. Gerçeğin anlamını yitirdiği ve sanallığın hâkim olduğu bu dünyada, bilincin anlamını yitirip yitirmediğini ve bilincin bedenden özgür olup olmadığını ortaya koymak ise çalışmanın amacını oluşturmaktadır. Söylem analizi yönteminin kullanıldığı çalışmada, dizinin tüm bölümleri incelenmiştir. Çalışmada, dizide ortaya konan dünyanın sanal gerçekliğe değil, gerçek sanallığa karşılık geldiği ve her şey bir simülasyondan ibaret olsa da bilincin gerçek olabileceği, ebediyen var olabilmesi mümkün olan bilincin simülasyonunun olamayacağı ve tüm sanallığın içerisinde dahi varlığına koruyabileceği sonucuna varılmıştır.
Unlike virtual reality, which is a three-dimensional world where reality is reproduced, in Castells' real virtuality, the difference between real and simulated reality has disappeared. In this world where everything is symbolic, the virtuality of the representative environment has replaced the real. In other words, the imitation replaces the real, which is also simulation. For the simulation based on the representation of reality, Baudrillard says that the world is a simulation and the boundaries of truth and simulation are blurred. In this environment where reality and its representations are mixed, consciousness stands as an important concept. Consciousness, which is the state of being aware of the mind, is independent of the body and can exist even in the absence of the body. In this context, the subject of this study, in which the Upload series is discussed, is the concept of consciousness in the context of real virtuality and simulation. The problem of the study is whether the world in the series corresponds to the concept of virtual reality or real virtuality and how consciousness is positioned in the simulation world. The study aims to reveal whether the consciousness has lost its meaning and whether the consciousness is free from the body in this world where reality has lost its meaning and virtuality is dominant. In the study, in which the discourse analysis method was used, all parts of the series were examined. In the study, it has been concluded that the world revealed in the series corresponds to real virtuality, not virtual reality and that although everything is a simulation, consciousness can be real, the consciousness that can exist forever cannot be simulated, and that it can preserve its existence even in all virtuality.
