Abstract:

Solid waste management is essential In terms of economic and environmental sustainability. The study aims to measure the efficiency of solid waste management of metropolitans in Turkey. In this context, firstly solid waste and solid waste management concepts were investigated. Then, the dataset consisting of two input variables (Average Amount of Waste Collected Per Capita and Number of Municipalities Providing Waste Services) and two output variables (Amount of Waste to Controlled Landfill Sites and Amount of Waste to Recovery Facilities) belonging to thirty metropolitans were analyzed by Data Envelopment Analysis. During the analysis, the BCC (VRS) Output Orientated Model, one of the Data Envelopment Analysis models, was used. According to analysis results, seven metropolitans (Adana, Ankara, Gaziantep, Istanbul, Kahramanmaras, Mardin ve Sanliurfa) were determined as efficient. Istanbul (20 times) and Gaziantep (18 times) appeared metropolitan in the reference set identified inefficient metropolitans to become efficient.
