Abstract:

The European continent has the largest share in tourism movements and total tourism income in the world. The European Union, which is the most important and leading power of the European continent, has a role that determines trends and developments in tourism, as well as in many economic areas and holds the control of tourism with its member countries. Turkey's both its relations with the European Union and the fact that the European continent constitutes an important part of the tourism market, necessitate to follow closely the European Union's approaches to tourism. The aim of this study is to compare the tourism policies of the European Union with the tourism policies of Turkey. Within the framework of this purpose, the direct and indirect tourism policies of the European Union as well as the national tourism policies of the European Union member countries were examined. As a result of the comparison, it has been evaluated that the tourism policies of the European Union and Turkey are in the same direction at certain points, but different applications take place and differ in some points. In this context, some suggestions have been presented to policy makers.
