Zamanın sessiz tanığı olan mezar taşları hem yüzeyinde bulunan kitabesiyle hem içerdiği motif ve süslemelerle hem de yapımında kullanılan malzemenin cinsiyle maziye dair günümüze kıymetli bilgiler sunmaktadır. Kitabeli mezar taşları bir nevi mevtanın hüviyet cüzdanı gibidir. Burada ölen kişinin adı, baba ismi, unvanı, lakabı, mesleği, evli bir kadınsa eşinin ismi hatta bazen vefat sebebi gibi ifadeler yer alabilmektedir. Bu bilgilerin yanında mezar taşı kitabelerinde geçen dua ve niyaz içeren tabirlerden, kitabenin ait olduğu dönemin dili ve edebiyatı hakkında fikir de edinilebilir. Ayrıca kitabelerdeki taş işçiliği, süslemelerde kullanılan motifler, mezar taşları için seçilen malzemenin niteliği gibi hususlar kitabelere ulaşılan sahadaki iktisadi, kültürel ve sanatsal yapıya dair tarihi seyri de ortaya koyabilmektedir. Mevcut çalışmanın konusunu, önceleri Aydın vilayetinin İzmir sancağına tabi bir nahiye iken, 19. yüzyılın sonlarına doğru İzmir’e bağlı bir kaza haline gelen Karaburun’un Haseki köyü civarında tespit edilen, 60 adet Osmanlı dönemi mezar taşı kitabesinin değerlendirilmesi oluşturmaktadır.

The subject of the current work is the evaluation of the 60th Ottoman period grave book, which was discovered around the Haseki village of Karaburun, which became an accident connected to Izmir by the end of the 19th century, while the first of the Aydin province was subject to the Izmir sanctuary.
