Needs of society and institutions differentiate as a result of developments in science and technology. This leads to the lack of vocationally and technically qualified secondary employees who can adapt to innovations. Universities are indispensable and fundamental components of education system and they are the primary institutions which possess strategic significance. The actions of universities in accordance with this mission are feasible through a good planning and the effective application of this planning. Higher education institutions are going through serious changes as a result of scientific, technological, social and economic developments on a global scale. This requires Vocational High Schools, which educate qualified labor force, to plan strategically to integrate changes and innovations in science and technology into their education systems. In these strategic plans, the priorities and needs of Vocational High Schools in accordance with their mission and organization strategy are assessed. Additionally, strengths and weaknesses of Vocational High Schools as well as opportunities and threats are determined and solutions are sought through coordination of domestic and foreign stakeholders, which enhances service value and success of universities. In this study, the significance of strategic management and strategic planning regarding the solution of issues in Vocational High Schools is evaluated in general. Besides, relevant solution suggestions are presented. It is thought that widespread practices of strategic management and strategic planning in Vocational High Schools will enhance the quality of educational output in terms of quality and quantity in higher education.
