Bu araştırmada okuma güçlüğünün giderilmesinde kullanılan Fernald yönteminin etkisini belirlemek amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmada Fernald yönteminin bir öğrencinin okuma hızı, kelime tanıma düzeyi ve okuduğunu anlama düzeyini geliştirmedeki etkisi belirlenmiştir. Araştırmada nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden tek denekli araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Amaçlı örnekleme yoluyla ölçüt örnekleme yöntemimin kullanılarak okuma güçlüğü yaşadığı tespit edilen dördüncü sınıf öğrencisi ile çalışma yapılmıştır. Bu kapsamda Akyol’un (2003) Ekwall ve Sahanker’den (1988, s. 412) uyarladığı Yanlış Analiz Envanteri öğrenciye çalışma öncesi ve çalışma sonrası uygulanmıştır. Çalışma iki gün arayla her gün 4 kelime toplam 40 kelime öğretme amacıyla toplam 10 günde yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın verileri betimsel istatiklerle analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmada çalışma yapılan öğrencinin okuma hızı, kelime tanıma düzeyi ve okuduğunu anlama düzeyi puanlarında anlamlı farklılıklar olduğu bulunmuştur. Araştırmada okuma güçlüğünün giderilmesinde kullanılan Fernald yönteminin öğrencinin okuma hızı, kelime tanıma düzeyi ve okuduğunu anlama düzeyinde etkili olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
This study is aimed at determining the effect of the Fernald method used in removing reading difficulties. The study identified the effect of the Fernald method on improving a student’s reading speed, level of word recognition and level of understanding that he is reading. The research has used the only method of qualitative research. The study was conducted with a fourth-class student who was diagnosed with difficulty reading using the measurement sampling method. In this context, the False Analysis Inventory adapted by Akyol (2003) to Ekwall and Sahanker (1988, p. 412) was applied to the student before and after study. The study was conducted in two days each day for the purpose of teaching 4 words in a total of 40 words in a total of 10 days. The data of the study was analyzed with visual statistics. The study found that there were significant differences in the student’s reading speed, the level of word recognition and the level of understanding that he read. The research found that the Fernald method used in removing reading difficulties was effective in the student’s reading speed, level of word recognition and level of understanding what he read.
