Abstract:

The aim of this study is to evaluate the developments in the world service trade along with the liberalization of world trade and the service trade of Turkey. In this study, the development of the world’s countries and the trade of services in Turkey was studied, the World Trade Organization, the Turkish Statistical Bureau and the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey’s 1985-2017 service sector export and import data were used. As a result, Turkey has many advantages in terms of information, technology, human capital and equipment in the service trade. Turkey has been shown to have high capacity and efficiency especially in the tourism and transport sectors. In Turkey, according to 2017 data, the tourism sector has measured about 51 per cent of the service trade revenues. Another service sector in which Turkey is active within the framework of traditional services. Turkey is the second sector of transportation that provides the largest exchange income in terms of service trade with a share of approximately 35% after the tourism sector for 2017. In general, in the balance of the foreign trade gap and trade gap in Turkey, it has sought to finance with the currency revenues obtained from the services sectors such as tourism, transport and construction. In order to further increase the share of Turkey in international service trade, the sectors with traditional competitive power, new sub-sectors with potential, and the work in these areas should be more focused.
