Çevirisini yaptığımız bu çalışma, Jesse H. Ziegler’in1 din eğitimi alanında önemli sayılabilecek ‘Psychology of Religion and Religious Education’ adlı makalesidir. Adı geçen makale, 1960 yılında editörlüğünü Marvin J. Taylor’un üstlendiği ‘Religious Education’2 adlı eserde yayınlanmıştır. Din psikolojisi ve din eğitiminin Batıda bilimsel bir disiplin olarak ortaya çıkışının 19. Yüzyılın sonlarından itibaren gerçekleştiği göz önünde bulundurulduğunda, Ziegler’in bu makalesi, alanla ilgili orijinal çalışmalardan biri olarak değerlendirilebilir. Ziegler makalesinde, din psikolojisinin, özellikle de psikanalizin verilerine dayanarak, çocukta dinî duygu ve düşüncenin gelişimini temellendirmeye çalışmıştır. Makalede, din kişiliğinin oluşumunda bireyin bebekliğinden itibaren karşılaştığı ilk tecrübelerin önemine değinilmiş ve ‘karşılaşma’ (encounter) kavramı ele alınarak, bu kavramın din psikolojisi, dinî düşüncenin gelişimi ve Allah inancının gerçekleşmesi açısından önemi üzerinde durulmuştur. Makalede de ifade edildiği gibi, çocuk doğumdan itibaren fiziki gerçeklik alemiyle sürekli karşılaşma halindedir. O, bir dizi dürtü sahibidir. Bu dürtülerin bireyin dışındaki varlıklarla karşılaşması sayesinde öğrenme gerçekleşmekte ve çocuk giderek düşünce ve yaşantısına temel teşkil edecek tecrübeler kazanmaktadır. İlk karşılaşmasını annesiyle gerçekleştiren çocuğun kişilik yapısı, diğer aile bireylerinin, okulun ve çevrenin bilinçli ya da tesadüfe dayalı etkisiyle olgunlaşmasını sürdürmektedir
This study we have translated is Jesse H. Ziegler’s article ‘Psychology of Religion and Religious Education’ which can be considered important in the field of religious education. The book was published in the 1960 edition of Marvin J. Taylor’s ‘Religious Education’. Religious Psychology and Religious Education as a Scientific Discipline in the West. Given that it occurred from the end of the century, this article by Ziegler can be considered one of the original studies on the field. In Ziegler’s article, on the basis of the data of religious psychology, especially psychoanalysis, he tried to fundamentate the development of religious feelings and thought in the child. The article emphasizes the importance of the first experiences that the individual has encountered in the formation of religious personality since childhood and addresses the concept of ‘confrontation’ (encounter), focusing on the importance of this concept in terms of religious psychology, the development of religious thinking and the realization of the faith in God. As stated in the article, the child is constantly facing the field of physical reality from birth. He has a number of impulses. Through the encounter of these impulses with creatures outside the individual, learning occurs and the child increasingly acquires experiences that will be the basis for his thought and life. The personality structure of the child who performs his first encounter with his mother continues to mature by the conscious or accidental influence of other family members, the school and the surrounding area.
