Abstract:

This study aimed to reveal the effect of teaching geometric shapes in primary school 4th-grade mathematics lesson with Web 2.0 tool (Polypad) application on students' academic achievement and attitudes towards mathematics. The study used the pretest-posttest control group model. The experimental group studied geometric shapes for three weeks with the Web 2.0 tool (Polypad) application while the control group studied the geometric shaped with the teachers of the classes within the current program. In order to collect data in the research, “4th Class Geometric Shapes Achievement Test” (KR20 = .68) developed by Öksüz and Genç (2021) and Geban et al. (1994) and adapted to mathematics by Uygun (2008) and consisting of 15 items was used. The test and scale were applied simultaneously to the experimental and control groups as a pre-test 2 days before the start of the classes, and as a post-test at the end of the study. The data at the end of the research were analyzed using the Jamovi program. Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was used to compare the pretest and posttest scores of the students in the experimental and control groups within the group, and the related groups t-test and posttest scores were compared. The results indicated that achievement and mathematics attitude had a positive effect on the experimental group students compared to the control group students. This situation revealed the importance of using technological tools more in mathematics education.
