Abstract:

Since the beginning of 20th century, social capital has become a very popular field of study. As a subject area in social sciences, this concept was first examined at the social level in the related literature. With the increasing interest, it has become a popular field of study, especially in economics and business administration. The present study attempts to investigate what social capital management can contribute to enterprises at organizational level. Trust, which is an important aspect of social capital, has been adapted to business organizations in terms of social relations. As is the case in all enterprises, the establishment and sustainability of trust in the organizations established to achieve specific goals plays a critical role in the success of such organizations. Ensuring trust at the organizational level is expected to have a positively effect on employees' performances, job satisfaction and organizational commitment. In the relevant literature, the studies regarding with the social capital in enterprises are mainly focused on the measurement of social capital and its effects on economic development. There are also some studies that concentrate on organizational performance and organizational loyalty in enterprises. However, in the related literature, there is lack of studies that directly or indirectly investigated the impact of the social capital on the performance and commitment of business organizations. Therefore, it seems to be crucial to analyse the issue in detail and to evaluate the effects of increasing social capital levels of enterprises.
