Tarihsel süreç içerisinde insanoğlu yaşamış olduğu fiziksel çevreyi ihtiyaçları çerçevesinde şekillendirirken ortaya çıkardığı kültürü, sonraki gelecek nesillere aktarmakta, böylece günbegün çeşitlenen ve zenginleşen bir kültürel birikim oluşturmaktadır. Bu birikim, insanların geçmişini bilmesini sağlayan somut belgedir. Kültürel değerlerin dünya mirası olduğu, korunmasının ve ölümsüzleştirilmesinin insanlığın sorumluluğunda olduğu herkes tarafından kabul edilen bir gerçektir. Tarihi çevreyi var eden örneklerin sorunları arasında, ekonomik ve sosyal şartlar sebebiyle eserlerin kendine özgü kullanımlarının devam edememesi yer alır. Turizm faaliyetlerinin sağlamış olduğu kullanım olanakları, kültürel ve doğal değerlerin korunarak yaşatılmasında önemli bir role sahiptir. Turizmin devamlılığı için kültürel mirasın tanınması, doğal kaynakların korunması ve yaşatılması gerekmektedir. Turizm, doğru yönlendirildiği zaman gerekli mali desteği yaratması ve ev sahibi toplumlara koruma konusunda bir motivasyon sağlaması açısından da önemlidir. Ancak turizmin ekonomideki olumlu etkilerinin yanı sıra olumsuz etkileri de vardır. Plansız bir turizm, çevresel, tarihsel ve kültürel değerlerin özgün niteliklerinin değişmesine, bozulmasına hatta yok olmasına yol açabilmektedir. Bu tehditlerin gerçekleşme ihtimali, sürdürülebilir turizm yaklaşımının ortaya çıkmasını sağlamıştır. Bu çalışmada örneklem alan olarak seçilen Kayseri Gesi Koruma Bölgesi’nin (KGKB) sürdürülebilir turizm ilkeleri doğrultusunda korunması amaçlanmaktadır. Çalışmada karma yöntem kullanılarak nitel ve nicel araştırmalar yapılmıştır. Gesi Koruma Bölgesi (GKB), Kayseri kentinin merkez ilçelerinden olan Melikgazi ilçesine bağlı Kuzey Mahallesi, Güney Mahallesi ve Bahçeli Mahallesi sınırları içerisinde yer almaktadır. GKB özgün arazi yapısı ile farklı medeniyetlerin izlerini günümüze kadar taşıyabilen bir kültür merkezi olması nedeniyle seçilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda elde edilen verilerden GKB’nin sürdürülebilir turizm potansiyeline sahip olduğu ancak, turistik potansiyelinin artırılması gerektiği, bunun için de sürdürülebilir koruma politikalarının sosyo-kültürel, çevresel ve ekonomik boyutta oluşturularak uygulanabilirliğinin sağlanmasının zaruri olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır.
In the historical process, the culture which the human being has revealed when forming the physical environment in the framework of their needs, is transmitted to the next generations, thus forming a cultural accumulation that is diversified and enriched every day. This accumulation is a concrete document that allows people to know their past. It is a fact that cultural values are a world heritage, and that their conservation and immortalization is the responsibility of mankind. Among the problems of the examples that exist the historical environment is that, due to economic and social conditions, the works cannot continue their own use. The possibilities of use provided by tourism activities play an important role in the preservation of cultural and natural values. The continuity of tourism requires the recognition of cultural heritage, the preservation and preservation of natural resources. Tourism is also important in terms of creating the necessary financial support when properly directed and providing motivation for the protection of host communities. However, as well as the positive effects of tourism on the economy, there are also negative effects. Unplanned tourism can lead to the change, disruption and even disappearance of the original qualities of environmental, historical and cultural values. The possibility of these threats has made it possible for the development of a sustainable tourism approach. This study aims to protect the Kayseri Gesi Protection Area (KGKB) selected as a sample area in accordance with the principles of sustainable tourism. In the study, qualitative and quantitative research was conducted using the karma method. Gesi Protection Area (GKB) is located within the boundaries of the Northern Mahallesi, Southern Mahallesi and Garden Mahallesi connected to the Melikgazi district, which is from the central districts of Kayseri city. GKB was chosen because of its original land structure and a cultural center that can carry traces of different civilizations to the present day. The results of the study conclude that the GKB has a sustainable tourism potential; however, it is necessary to increase its tourism potential, and that it is also necessary to ensure the implementability of sustainable protection policies in a socio-cultural, environmental and economic dimension.
