MUTLULUK EKONOMİSİ: G8 ÜLKELERİ AÇISINDAN EKONOMİK BÜYÜME VE MUTLULUK ARASINDAKİ İLİŞKİNİN İNCELENMESİ

Abstract:

Bu çalışmanın amacı, gelişmişlik açısından dünyada ilk sıralarda yer alan G8 ülkelerine ait 2012-2018 arası yıllarına ait veriler kullanarak mutluluk ve ekonomik büyüme arasındaki ilişkiyi panel veri analizi yardımıyla incelemektir. Uygulanan GMM analizi neticesinde elde edilen sonuçlara göre, ekonomik büyüme istatistiksel olarak anlamlı iken negatif bir etki etmektedir. Buna karşın, kişi başına düşen milli gelirin katsayısı ise pozitiftir. Bunun anlamı, G8 ülkelerinde kişi başına düşen milli gelir arttıkça mutluluk da artmaktadır. Ardından, mutluluk ile ekonomik büyümenin birbirini etkileyip etkilemediği Granger nedensellik testi yardımı ile saptanmaya çalışılmıştır. Granger nedensellik analizinden elde edilen sonuçlara göre, ekonomik büyüme ile mutluluk arasında çift yönlü bir ilişki saptanmıştır.

Economy of Happiness: A review of the relationship between economic growth and happiness from the G8 countries

Abstract:

The aim of this study is to explore the relationship between happiness and economic growth by using panel data analysis, using data from the 2012-2018 years of the G8 countries ranked first in the world in terms of development. According to the results obtained from the implemented GMM analysis, economic growth has a negative impact while statistically meaningful. However, the percentage of national income per person is positive. This means that the national income per capita in the G8 countries increases, the happiness also increases. Then, it was tried to determine with the help of the Granger causality test whether happiness and economic growth influence each other or not. According to Granger's causal analysis, a bilateral relationship between economic growth and happiness has been established.

The aim of this study is examine the relationship between happiness and economic growth for G8 countries which are in the top ranks in the world in terms of development and have high quality of life, for the period between 2012-2018 by using panel data analysis. According to the GMM analysis, while economic growth is statistically significant, it has a negative effect. In spite of that the coefficient of per capita income is positive. This means that happiness increases as per capita income increases in G8 countries. Finally, Granger causality test has been performed to determine whether happiness and economic growth affects each other. According to the findings of Granger causality analysis, there is bidirectional causality relationship between economic growth and happiness.
