Abstract Nearly every developmental problem of the 21st century, such as food and energy security, rapid urbanization, environmental protection, adaptation to climate change, is directly related to the rational management of water resources. Water is the most important determinant of how we can develop and plan cities.Even with a better understanding of the value of the water in time, problems arising from the decline in investments in infrastructure, rapid urbanization, pollution from mines, industrial and agricultural sectors, and erroneous land use decisions make it difficult to protect water resources. Also this situation has leads to irreversible loss of water resources. In this context, Ergene Basin water problems, which are the wellknownproblem in our country, will be examined in the province of Tekirdağ which has the fastest population increase on the watershed basis. When Tekirdağ province has the status of the metropolitan municipality in 2014 then it started to implement a centralized water management model that addresses urban and rural water problems. The area and population served by the water and sewerage establishments increased and at the same time gained a dimension including the use of urban water as well as the use of rural water. This study will evaluate the provincial water and sewerage management model in terms of water service sustainability. The problems that living in the Province have reached a level that threatens the sustainability of water service.Over time urban settlements in the province of Tekirdağ increase the water losses of the worn water network and trigger the problem of water interruption. In addition, due to the chemicals used in agricultural activities and stone quarries, surface and groundwater resources are permanently damaged. In conclusion it will be emphasized that urban and regional planning can make sustainable water management possible by addressing the suggestions for solutions as well as the problems of water management.
