Abstract:

The objective of this research is to ascertain the identity of Taytuğlı Hatun within the context of the Golden Horde. Specifically, the study aims to investigate her role as the wife of Ozbeg (Özbek) Khan, her political standing, and the impact she had on the historical development of the khanate during the reigns of Ozbeg (Özbek) Khan, Janibek (Canibek) Khan, Berdibek Khan, and subsequent power struggles for the throne. The research resources include jarlyks (yarlıklar) issued by the khans of the Golden Horde and Taytuğlu Hatun, as well as local sources that possess the qualities of Genghis-namas, shedding light on the historical aspects of the Golden Horde. Additionally, the itineraries of travelers and other primary sources are also considered. The identification, status, and political role of Taytuğlu Khatun within the Golden Horde are subjects of inquiry in this qualitative study. The investigation relies on the interpretation of narratives from primary sources, which are examined to shed light on these aspects. The primary sources were analyzed using the method of document analysis. Consequently, the research assessed the proposed predictions based on both shared and distinct information found in these sources. The objective of this study is to explore novel methodologies by directing focus towards overlooked intricacies. Taytuğlı Hatun, a woman of Qipchak (Kıpçak) descent, had a significant role in the political and economic spheres throughout the reigns of the final three rulers of the White Horde Dynasty (Ak Orda Hanedanı). Within the Golden Horde Khanate, she served as a representative of the ancestral successors of the Desht-i Qipchaq region, engaging in a rivalry with the Mongolian tribes to assert the dominance of the tribal nobility.
