Abstract:

After the official discovery of the Ottoman State, a new modernization movement was launched by the Republican personnel. In the essence of all modernization movements, secular consciousness has existed. There have been significant changes in all things related to society. In the beginning of the change, the institutions of education and religious institutions came. The President of Diyanet Affairs, one of the important institutions of Turkish modernization, has been at the center of important discussions since the day of its establishment. Specifically, the discussions on the Dianet Affairs President, which are at the heart of strong criticism in the fields of secularity, autonomy, riyaset, scope and identity, keeps up to date. Institutional identity is still perceived as a problem of religious and state relations. A similar institution, which is a key actor in religious and state relations, is the Russian Orthodox Church. The Russian Orthodox Church remained in the corner of the communist ideology after the Bolshevik Revolution. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, a different process began for the Russian Orthodox Church. In this study, in particular in Turkey, the function and position of the Dianet Affairs Presidency will be examined, a comparison with the Russian Orthodox Church will be made, the social and political dimensions of current practices will be analyzed. At the end point, the institution identity, social harmony and the steps needed to overcome the existing problems will be presented in recommendations.
