Birth is the beginning of a major process of transformation in a cultural sense, rather than just biologically. This transitional phase has brought many cultural practices with the direction of the motherhood of the woman, the man’s paternity roles, the first concrete proof of being a family, and the parents’ psychological and social lives fully focused on themselves. These practices are slowly faced with the evolution of modern society, but they are still faced with us as practices that continue to exist in rural sections. The birth process, which is the beginning stage of the transitional traditions we express as birth, marriage and death traditions, is attracted to attention, especially with the practices made on nazar and magic. This process begins with estimates made in the name of determining the child’s gender during the pregnancy process, continues with the child’s tooth removal, speech and walking. This study, based on the traditions related to child birth and growth in the Turkish Mediterranean Journal, which began its publication life in Antalya in 1937, aims to evaluate the cultural values reached to date or forgotten with the practices applied in that period, compared to other studies in the region. The data obtained from the Turkish Mediterranean Journal have been classified under three titles; pre-born, birth order and after-born rituals under the titles. These scans and comparisons in the name of birth and child raising are aimed at bringing the practices that are still in existence in the traditional folk culture to future generations.
