Abstract:

In this study, the agricultural land use situation of Hoşap River Basin was discussed. The basin is located in the Van Section of the Eastern Anatolia Region according to the geographical division, and within the TRB2 Region (Level 2) according to the Statistical Region Unit Classification. The minimum height of the area is the water level of Van Lake with 1649 meters, and the maximum height is Başet Mountain with 3684 meters. The total area of the basin is 2.551 km². The aim of this study is to reveal the agricultural land use situation in the Hoşap River Basin and to develop solutions to profitably benefit from this land. The first stage of the study was started by collecting literature and necessary data. Literature collection and classification were followed by field studies, digital data collection and electronic maps. After these preparations, the text part of our study was prepared in accordance with the purpose, which was supported by graphics and tables. The Havasor Plain in the West and the Hoşap Plateau, which are fragmented by rivers in the east, constitutes the most important areas of the plain. The share of agricultural lands in the general land division in the Hoşap River Basin is 23.2%. Along with animal husbandry, another important economic activity in the Hoşap River Basin is agriculture. Agricultural activities intensified in the west, on both sides of the delta (south-north) where Hoşap River empties into Lake Van, and in the Havasor Plain and on the Hoşap Plateau in the east. In the basin, the existing agricultural land potential is not adequately evaluated. It is important to make a sustainable planning in agricultural land use in order to use the existing potential in the basin in a way that will provide maximum benefit.
