Abstract:

Kurtubî's tafsir is accepted as a work that contains both riwaya (tafsir bi’l-rivaya) and diraya (tafsir bi’l-diraya) tafsir elements but it is generally shown among the representatives of the diraya tafsir school in the world of science. It is seen that Kurtubî included some rivayets within the scope of isrâiliyât with the influence of some sources he benefited from in his work al-Câmi li-ahkâmi'l-Kur'an, although not too many. While he criticizes some of these narrations with contrary evidence and states their invalidity; although he included some narrations in his work, he did not criticize them. Undoubtedly, it must be stated that the fact that Kurtubî included the isrâiliyât information in his work, which he did not criticize, casts a shadow on the scientific feature and competence of this tafsir. However, it should not be overlooked that the sum of the information leading to the said weakness constitutes a very small sum compared to the large volume of tafsir. In this study, the narrations that Kurtubî took into his work and criticized while he was interpreting the verses, and the news of isrâiliyât that he conveyed for informational purposes without criticism will be discussed. On both topics, it will be tried to determine Kurtubî's view of isrâiliyât and the position of his commentary among other tafsir books.
