Abstract:

Nationalism, which the Western civilization reveals and adopts in the form of each nation’s establishment of its own state, is based on the values of language, race and culture as a result of the secular understanding that this civilization is based on, and that has led to the transformation of nationalism into racism. As a result of the propaganda of the Western civilization to spread its sovereignty over the world and the imperialist Western states to take advantage of this idea, the Ottoman State with a multi-national structure, which soon influenced the whole world, has been negatively affected and entered the process of dissolution. Although the Turkish nation, which wants to preserve the existence and integrity of the state, has produced integrated policies such as Ottomanism, Islamism and Turningism, it has not succeeded due to the effectiveness of nationalist thoughts. In the National Struggle Period, with the nation's understanding based on the race, against the Westers who occupied the territory of Turkey to divide, the values such as religion, patriotic and common history were put forward, a nation's understanding based on the unity of different races and cultures was revealed and with the power born of this unity, the occupants were removed from the country. But in the Republic Period, an incrust was made based on the values of the West, and the people were re-defined according to these values, and everyone in Turkey was considered Turkish and the policy of Turkishization was implemented. This situation caused reactions and the spirit of unity formed in the National Struggle Period.
