Hitit Devleti Kuruluş yıllarından itibaren Kuzey Suriye topraklarına askeri seferler düzenlemiştir. Hititlerin bu bölge ile olan doğrudan teması dönemin diğer politik güçleriyle birlikte Hitit İmparatorluk döneminde de kesintisiz bir biçimde devam etmiştir. Hitit Krallık döneminde -başta I. Hattuşili ve I. Murşili olmak üzere- Kuzey Suriye bölgesine düzenli bir biçimde seferler düzenlenerek bölgenin egemenlik altına alınmaya çalışıldığı yazılı kaynaklar aracılığı ile bilinmektedir. Bu seferlerin arkeolojik bağlamda izlerini ortaya koyabilecek yangın tabakaları bölgede kazı çalışmaları ile incelenen çok sayıdaki yerleşimde ortaya çıkmıştır. Hititlerin Kuzey Suriye topraklarına yönelik uyguladıkları politikaların Hitit devletine ekonomik ve siyasi açıdan doğrudan ve dolaylı olmak üzere önemli kazançlar sağladığı görülmektedir.
The Hithite State has been organizing military flights to the northern Syria territory since its establishment. The direct contact of the Hittites with this region, along with the other political powers of the time, continued uninterruptedly during the Hittite Empire. In the period of the Hittite Kingdom - primarily Hattuşili and Murshili - regular flights to the northern Syria region are known through written sources where the region is trying to get under the domination. The fire layers that could reveal their traces in the archaeological context of these times have appeared in a large number of settlements that are studied by the excavation work in the area. The policies of the Hittites towards the territory of North Syria appear to provide significant economic and political benefits to the Hittite state, directly and indirectly.
