Abstract:

This study, The Archaic, Hellenistic and Roman Imperial Period terracotta figurines in the Niğde Museum. Terracotta figurines are used extensively as votive objects. There are four figurines that have been evaluated in the museum. These figurines are Kourotrophos, Dressed Ephebos, Female Figurine and Goddess Figurine. By comparing terracotta figurines with different dated samples, a stylistic, typological and iconographic evaluation was made and it was determined that they were made in the Archaic, Hellenistic and Roman Imperial Period. Since terracotta figurines have been acquired by the museum, it is difficult to obtain precise information about the structure or structures where the artifacts are found. Niğde is an important residential area within the Cappadocia Region; however, the absence of a systematic archaeological excavation limits our knowledge of the Greec and Roman Imperial Period of the region. For this reason, examining the works in the museum's inventory and making the necessary studies and transforming them into scientific publications will make important contributions to the social, cultural and religious structure of the city in Greec and the Roman Empire Period.
