Kurtubî (ö. 671/1273), Endülüs’ün Kurtuba şehrinde doğmuştur. Müfessirin Kurtuba’da yaşadığı zaman dilimi büyük bir ihtimalle VI. (XII.) yüzyılın sonları veya VII. (XIII.) yüzyılın başları olup, Murâbıtlar döneminin (1090-1147) sonları ve Muvahhidler döneminin (1147-1229) başlarını kapsamaktadır. Kurtubî, ilim tahsilini Kurtuba’nın işgaline kadar burada sürdürmüştür. Bu işgalden sonra Mısır’a hicret edip, geri kalan ömrünü burada umumiyetle kitap telif etmekle geçirmiştir. Araştırmamızın temel özneleri, Kurtubî ve ahkâm tefsirine ağırlık verdiği el-Câmi‘ li-ahkâmi’l-Kur’ân adlı meşhur tefsiridir. Kurtubî, Tefsir, Hadis, Fıkıh, Lügat ve Kıraat gibi çeşitli dallardaki ilmî kapasitesini bilhassa ahkâm tefsirine ağırlık verdiği el-Câmi‘ li-ahkâmi’l-Kur’ân’da serdetmiştir. Ayrıca Kurtubî, Hadis, Fıkıh, dil, siyer ve tasavvuf gibi muhtelif alanlarda eserler kaleme almıştır. Bu Makalede, Kurtubî’nin ilmi ve ahlâkî şahsiyeti ortaya konulmuştur. Kaynaklarda Kurtubî’nin biyografisine dair çok sınırlı malumat bulunması sebebiyle, bu bilgiler müfessirin eserlerinden elde edilmiştir. Konular işlenirken, bazı çalışmalarda öne sürülen yanlış veya hatalı bilgiler ve temelsiz çıkarımlar eleştirilmiştir.
