XIV-XV yüzyıl Türk tarihinin aydınlatılabilmesi için tarihi belgeler her zaman önemli olmuştur. Bu belgeler arasında mektuplar, fermanlar vakayinameler birinci elden ilk kaynaklar arasındadır. Söz konusu dönem tarihine, özellikle de Akkoyunlu- Karakoyunlu ve Osmanlı ilişkilerine ışık tutan bu belgelerden birisi Uzun Hasan’ın Sultan Mehmed’e yolladığı mektuptur. Söz konusu mektubun orijinal olan metni Feridun Bey’in Mecmûa-i Münşeât-ı Selâtîn adlı eserinde yer almaktadır. Makalede Abdulhüseyin Nevaî’nin “Esnâd ve Mukâtebât-ı Tarihî-yi İran ez Timur ta Şâh İsmail” adlı eserindeki nüshayı dikkate alacağız. Bu makalede mektubun diplomatik açıdan dil, üslup,diplomatik ve tarihi içeriğinin değerlendirilmesi yapılacaktır.
