Abstract:

Writing is the system that people use to communicate, which determines language with certain signs. This study, which aims to examine the extent to which the writing activities in Turkish textbooks are used in the activities in the textbooks of the methods and techniques used in writing teaching, was conducted in a qualitative design. The object of the study consists of 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade Turkish textbooks published by different publishers in the 2022-2023 academic year. Writing preparation activities, writing activities, preparation for the next lesson, and end-of-the-theme evaluation questions in the textbooks were analyzed in terms of writing outcomes. The writing outcomes in the specified sections were identified and recorded during the examination. Then, the frequency and percentage values of these outcomes were calculated and the number of times each outcome was addressed in the book was determined. Then, these frequencies were presented in a table for each book separately. As a result of the research, when analyzed in terms of writing methods, it was found that similar methods (guided writing, controlled writing, note-taking) were used at all grade levels; critical writing, group writing and writing from the senses were not included sufficiently.
