Abstract:

The STEM approach, which has begun to spread throughout the world, has been planned by the Ministry of National Education, universities and private institutions in our country. Therefore, the study was prepared to show how the STEM approach can be integrated into robotics and coding training. In this context, the work done in the Red Hat Code Project, which was carried out in the Ankara or Kızılcahamam district, was discussed. This project has included the works with children of the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 9th grade students who participated in the work throughout the district for a year. The studies were conducted in the robotics and coding workshop established in the public education center located in the district center, in the form of taking two hours of lessons per month for each class participating in the training. According to the case research method, the study found that students were passive, far from productivity and closed to cooperation in the first workshop training, but as the training continued, their productivity increased and they began to work in cooperation. Students who fully participate in the training have been found to find concrete solutions using multiple disciplines for their problem situations in accordance with the STEM approach. Students who participate in robotics and coding competitions are also determined to be more determined to find a solution, and they do not hesitate to try again when they make a mistake. In light of this study, it is emphasized that teachers can process IT and software courses according to the STEM approach.
